Envy

Envy is the most destructive of feelings
More destructive than any poison gas
It turns friends against each other,
The failure's back towards the winner
because this parasite follows success
There's always room for it even within the purest of hearts

Envy is despicable, shameful
No civilized soul will admit it
Surely we are all above it
After rising from childhood's sibling battles to adulthood
And still it won't disappear but comes to you like a friend in need
Slinking as the shadow of fame and fortune

It would be too conceited to say
That I'm free of it, even if it should be the truth
But it shouldn't be a problem, it doesn't harm me
unlike the others that have fallen amidst the envious
As they place themselves in my way
Just like the rest of them

  1. You're so right. People don't admit they're envious but what else drives them?
